Vaughan Out - KP In
So much to talk about after just one more test match, and a broken finger making typing difficult - I’ll keep it short! I know the squad has been named - this has been written as if it hasn’t and is my opinion on what I’d do!
Long and short of it - we lost. Decisions went for and against both teams, so I’m not going to moan about them, but the team do look a little bit lost, and maybe a change of captain is the right thing to do. Fresh impetus, ideas and outlook may be what we need after a pretty unsuccessful summer. Whether or not KP is the man for the job I don’t know - but he’s about the only person certain of his place right now which almost makes him the only choice really.
Changes must be made to the side to help stop the rot as well. I don’t doubt that Colly’s innings was a very good one, its just so annoying that players seem to wait until the last chance saloon before getting the big scores. We have to put up with series after series of failure before they do what they’re capable of. Ambrose hasn’t shown enough to keep the gloves - yes it isn’t his fault the batsmen ahead aren’t scoring runs but we need more from the keeper and he isn’t showing it. Sidebottom looks horribly down on pace and fitness, give him a test off and bring back Jones or Harmison. The series is already lost so we have nothing to lose, so lets be bold and maybe bring in someone like Joe Denly to the top of the order, Shah in for Vaughan and Ravi Bop for Colly. Give them a chance to show what they can do, the players which should be hungry and see how we compete then!
