England’s Injury Curse

July 18, 2007 · Filed Under England Test Cricket

Well the injury curse has returned to the England squad, and now it looks unlikely that Hoggy will play any part in the test match against India which starts tomorrow. After the news that Harmy is our of the series, and the ongoing injury to Freddie, our bowling is going to look decidedly lacklustre.

The likelihood is that Anderson will come in for Hoggy, whilst Stuart Broad will make his debut in place of Harmison. The only other bowler in the squad at the moment is the Hampshire 6″10″ bowler Chris Tremlett, who if you ask me shouldn’t be anywhere near the test squad. When he burst onto the scene there was a great deal of excitement around him due to his height and the potential to hit the deck hard and bowl fast. But after some injuries he isn’t really that sort of player, and he has never shown a decent run of form to even suggest he should be in the squad.

I’m not a huge fan of someone like Saj Mahmood like I’ve said before, but surely he has got to be a better option. Unless he’s injured! Or how about Graham Onions, a young player who has had a few good reviews over the past couple of seasons. Or even how about bringing back Simon Jones! Ok this is clutching at straws a little bit, but he’s been bowling quite a bit for his county this season.

It shouldn’t be a problem hopefully anyway as Anderson and Broad will take over the reigns, leaving us with probably the least experienced attack we’ve fielded in a long time. Right, what are the odds on a three-nil India…..
